Back to School
Just a quick little photo that I just love from this morning's back to school day. I can't believe Andrew is now in 3rd grade! He's growing up to be a sweet little boy and I'm excited for him and the school year ahead.

I was lucky this summer to have a significant amount of time off. I had a busy busy spring and have a busy fall ahead of me, but this summer I had almost 7 weeks off. I spent most of that time savoring my family. It is lovely that I get to do that as there have been years in the past when it has not been possible. The twins, 4, are at a stage where the baby-ness has almost melted away, but they still have the sweetness in them. My oldest has found a voice and he uses it. It's not a bad thing, just different from his innocent younger years. We spent time at the house in Cape Cod where Roots was held. Roots workshop, an amazing workshop by good friend Emilie Sommer, Emilie does an amazing job gathering a staff of very talented photographers together and I really enjoy being a part of it. She has some great stories from the workshop on her BLOG. If you are considering it for next year, don't wait long as I'm certain it will sell out.
I wanted to post a few photos I shot this summer...these are called TTV images:

Lastly, some regular ones of us. The house there is magical. It is!

I'm so thrilled that spring has finally come and I hope everyone is enjoying a weekend off. I'm trying to law as low as I possibly can over the next few days because after spring break, my life turns crazy again. Hope you are finding time to enjoy this weather!
So, it's Howard County fair time again and this year we really had a game plan this year. Taking three kids to the fair can cost well over $100 if you're not careful. So we decided to go on a night that it was a pay-one-price and ride all night deal. Still, $36, yikes. We ran into friends who have one child and it occurred to me that they only paid $12. Wow, college..no, don't think about that..back to the present...rides, lots of rides....
The fair is by far one of my favorite photo subjects. You can see some images from last year's fair HERE. But, as always when I go somewhere with my family, I have to choose- mom or photographer. Yes, perhaps there is a way to do both, but it's hard for me. Three kids require at least two eyes, two legs and two arms. I may have made some nice images from last year's fair, but my husband, although understanding, was less than thrilled to be dealing with them on his own. And really, I can either talk to Jake while he's petting the baby chick or I can shoot it. So I decided to be just a mom this year. Instead of a big, fancy camera, I joined the ranks of mothers everywhere with point and shoots who lean over the flimsy fair fences to get a photos of their sweet little ones on questionably safe fair rides. I couldn't have been happier. The twins couldn't get enough of those little trucks that go around in a circle. By the end of the night, they were regulars who knew how to buckle themselves and knew exactly where to exit and enter. Andrew loved the funhouse and went in so many times we started timing him to see if he could beat his best time through. Ethan took them down the big, slippery slide with the burlap bag and they screamed with joy. All three of them were in kid heaven. My husband and I were in parent heaven. And so I guess sometimes enjoying it IS more important than documenting it. Of course, I had my iphone camera to got those shots I didn't get from last year. I just thought I'd share those here. On a side note, I also have a better understanding into why non-professionals don't really take all that great of photos. Those cameras are hard to shoot with! Enjoy my lovely family in lovely summer family bliss:

See, even I can't get a shot with their eyes all open!!!

OK, so I had to TRY and take at least one nice shot. Not bad with the little iphone:

So once a month we have a mini-session day in the studio. We hold 30 -minute sessions in the studio and people come and bring whoever and whatever to photograph in those 30 minutes. It's a great deal if you are looking for a more natural look to family portraits. We mostly do them for people looking to getting a nice posed photo of their family and then some nice candid photos if we have time. Check it out:
I know many of my clients are from NYC and I always tell them about my ultra-cool artist brother who lives in Brooklyn. So I thought it would appropriate to post his next opening here since I can't make and I'm feeling quite sad about it. I'm super-proud of him. So, if you get a chance, check it out.
We're loading up the mini-van with bikes and swimsuits and kids and heading up to Philly (Lansdowne) to visit my parents and celebrate the 4th, then I'm shooting a fabulous wedding on the 5th at the Union League where I'm looking forward to meeting photographer Tim Will, whose work is awesome! Then we're off to Cape Cod on the sixth to find out what it's like to vacation on the Cape. (Any tips for good bets are welcomed in the comments) We'll be staying in Chatham with my parents for a week and then I have to leave my husband with my family (I love you honey!) for the 2nd week while I'm off teaching the Roots Workshop. I'm shooting again in Philly on the 20th at the Ballroom at the Ben. Please feel free to email me, but I may not have internet access while we are in Chatham. You are welcome to call the studio for any questions. Happy 4th!
Quickly, I'm trying to get out here, but I wanted to post a few from the Live Family Life Stages session. Kassie is getting so big!
